Who Would You Like To Pay To Not Work?

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean “who would you like to bribe so you don’t have to work”. Rather, who would you like to pay to make them stop working?

That’s an interesting dimension of the EU’s Common Agriculture Policy (one which is due to be done away with today by the way), which BBC correspondent Mark Mardell happily explores in a great blog post which you can read by clicking here. Since it’s already posible to pay farmers for not cultivating parts of their lands, he argues, why stop there? Why not pay other professionals for not doing their jobs?

For instance, I could think of quite a number of politicians, whom I would be quite happy to pay for them not to do any more work.

Oh wait a minute… I already do.

Oh, bother.

Of course the problem is that just as the CAP is being reformed, the reasons for its creation all those years ago in the 1950’s are now starting to rear their ugly heads. Food security, which has been taken for granted for decades is now a big issue. As the worlds population grows (and is expected to hit 9 billion in 20 years time) and the amount of suitable farming land deacreases, coupled with the weather extremes which we are told will become the norm in the future could well result in food shortages for the west. We are also now seeing the start of protectionist polices implemented in many coutries to protect their food supplies from being bought by other (often wealthier) coutries. So perhaps those politians who are CAP reformers should reconsider when, if they think ahead could be be voted out of office very quickly if their populations experiance any interuptions to the ready supply of cheap food.

I think those working in the building industry should ask for the same rights as the farmers.

Well, for one thing, the Brits just love paying a certain family for riding with dictators in their carriages, playing targets on a war theatre etc. etc.

But the whole capitalistic economical system is based on the “pay me for doing nothing” motto. E.g. : you paid Bill Gates and you got – Windows. You pay for a prestigious car from Ford or GM and you get – a gas guzzler and job losses. South Africans pay their electricity companies and they get – regular power cuts. You pay McDo for a decent meal an you get – 60% of US obese.

That’s how capital gets created in the first place : you pay people so that they DO NOTHING and be proud enough to ask you to pay again !!!

I would like to pay off and dismiss all the polititions and officials of the EU and close the whole thing down . The EU has been created by polititions for politions and in my opinion does not really have the support of people of all the represented nations . The EU is a sinecure and sourse of vast corruption and wasted expense . The EU already has too many members ; the addition of Turkey will be the last straw . I believe that ultimately the individual nations will break apart . The attempt to create a federal state is a major error ; a confederation of self governing nation states might succeed .
I am British , but have lived in Italy , an almost ungovernable country .
Italy has cooked the books to qualify for monetary union ; which is proving a disaster for business , export , the people and the government , which cannot get enough parliamentary support to really tackle the huge national debt . Italians know better than most how to legitimately extract money from the EU , in a manner that ordinarily would be classed as corruption .
The British people are not in accord with their government ; had there been a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty , would almost certainly have vote NO . In fact any referendum held in Britain would certainly have a negative vote regarding the EU . It is even possible that the British people would vote to leave the European Union . I see a comment suggesting all the world looks to the European Union . Nonsense , the EU is scarcely visible to the rest of the world and is not considered a force to be reckoned with .
I am thankful that I now live far away in Thailand ; if British , I give no alegence to the European Union .
If you spoke of the EU to Thai people ; they would say , ” Where is that “? I voted for Britain to leave the EEC ; I have met many people who voted for Britain to stay in , who susequently wished they hadn’t . It is regretable that any benefits from membership are heavily outweighed by the failures and negative aspects .
